Miley Cyrus for M•A•C Viva Glam

As some of you may know, I am a HUGE Miley Cyrus fan! I was completely ecstatic to find out that she was going to be the next spokesman for MAC's Viva Glam. My two favorite things joining forces to create total AWESOMENESS!!! I've never been more excited about a collaboration in my life.

Things that make this collab straight epic for me:
  • The collection is straight pink. Not just pink, but hot pink! :D My favorite color.
  • Honestly, I was getting bored with Rihanna, so this is great timing.
  • Miley Cyrus is on top of the world right now. She's wrapping up her Bangerz tour and is relevant at the moment. She really has become a household name (good or bad).
  • ALL the #VivaGlam proceeds go to help men, women, and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • It's MAC.
  • It's Miley.
  • It's pink.
Do I really need to say more?????

I know not everyone is a die-hard SMILER like me, but you have to admit this collab is going to be epic.

The Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick and lipglass will be released January 22, 2015 (America) and February 12, 2015 (International). They are limited edition so you can bet that I will be one of the first people to buy this pair. I just haven't decided how many I want to buy :/

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipstick in Hot Pink (Amplified)- $16, Viva Glam Miley Cyrus Lipglass  (Hot pink with sparkling pearl)- $15. Both are Limited Edition.

Are you stoked about this collaboration? Are you a Smiler? What are your thoughts?

So Polished: Polka Dots and Roses

Hey guys!
I've been getting back into nail polish lately and actually decided to do a little nail art on my fingers today. I hadn't planned on it, but it just kinda happened and I LOVE the end results (thus, why I wanted to share with you! :)) Whatdaya think?

For the base color, I used Essie's Bikini So Teeny. I felt like that was the perfect complimentary color for this look. For the polka dots I used Sally Hansen's I <3 a="" added="" and="" art="" baby="" base="" chartreuse.="" clear="" coat="" color="" details="" f21.="" flowers="" for="" from="" hansen="" i="" in="" it="" magenta="" nail="" nbsp="" off="" p="" pen="" pens="" pink="" purchased="" rose="" s="" sally="" seche="" shade="" shades="" the="" then="" to="" top="" topped="" used="" vite.="" white.="" with="">
This was my first time using these nail art pens and I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed. At first I was a little weary because the tips of the pens are super hard and I was afraid they would dig into my base coat when I used them. I quickly realized that I barely needed to touch the pen to my nails for the polish to adhere to them. Overall, I think they're great little nail art pens and I'm definitely going to purchase more.

Have you been into nail art lately? What nail art trends are you loving?

Wait. What?

Hi, um, my name is Amber and I like makeup and this is my blog...

Should I just start over since it's been so long?

Ok, so it's been about a month and I haven't posted ANYTHING! Life has been crazy lately. If you didn't know already, I got a job as a 4th grade English teacher and my first day of school is tomorrow! AHHHHHHH! I'm nervous but super excited for the start of this school year. I can't wait to see their sleepy faces tomorrow morning. :D I've been so busy lately with getting everything prepared for my students that blogging has had to take a back seat. Please forgive me. I will still create posts, and in fact, I have a list of blog ideas I'd like to talk about but time is not on my side as of late.

I simply wanted to get on here and let everyone know that I'm still here, I've just been crazy busy lately.

Wish me luck on my first day of teaching! :)

Packing for Summer Vacation and Traveling Tips

Hey guys!

It's summertime and everyone is going on vacation to visit family and friends. Wherever you're going, it's important to know what to pack for your trip. Since it's still summer, I'll stick with what you might need to bring on a vacation for warmer weather.

1. How Much to Pack
When packing, consider the amount of suitcase space you have and whether or not you will need a checked bag. Check for suitcase and carry on dimensions on your airline's website before you start packing. Obviously if you're going on a road trip, dimensions of a suitcase don't necessarily matter. Pack absolute essentials first. Personally, I bring a large carry on (as large as the airlines allow) and squish my purse into it when needed. I typically pack the fragile things in there so I know they aren't being thrown around with everyone else's luggage.

2. Carry On
In my carry on, I typically keep my laptop, cameras, chargers, purse, large makeup bag and brushes, and a travel roll up bag (this is the one I have). In my travel roll up bag is where I hold my feminine and personal hygiene products such as toothpaste, deodorant, sunscreen, etc. I also keep my jewelry and facial and hair products in some of the pockets. Make sure no containers hold more than 3 oz. of product. I'd hate to throw away something I totally splurged on!

*It may also be a good idea to pack an extra change of clothes in your carry on just in case your suitcase gets lost.

3. Basic Pieces
When it comes to your suitcase, pack basic pieces, but don't be scared to throw in a few pops of color. You want to have basic pieces that can easily be paired with other basics. For example, black, nude, or leopard flats/sandals can be paired with any outfit. If you want to wear prints, stick with a classic print such as stripes or polka dots. These prints can go with any piece you pair it with. Not feeling prints? Solid colors are the easiest thing to pair with other basic pieces. You can actually venture out a little in the color department when it comes to solids, too. Since it's summertime, why not choose a bright neon top or bottom and pair it with a simple print?

*See the picture above? Both tops could be paired with both bottoms. Denim shorts will work with anything! Black and white stripes look adorable when paired with a bright color. Try it!

4. Jewelry
If you want to stick with the bare minimum and the simplest of basic pieces, try spicing your outfit up with different jewelry. Accessories are a great way to take a "meh" outfit into an "oh, that's cute" outfit. I would pack a couple statement necklaces, a few arm candy pieces, and earrings. To save on space, try picking jewelry that is within the same family, like all gold, silver, or rose gold. I personally don't like to mix metals because I think it can get messy looking BUT to each his own. :) I just find that it's easier to pair jewelry when they at least have the same metals.

5. Don't Forget
When you think you've finished, reexamine what you've packed. Make sure you consider all the places you will be visiting on vacation and haven't forgotten the appropriate attire for those places. Bathing suits, formal dress, tennis shoes/sports bra?

Last but not least, don't stress. Have fun. That's what vacations are all about! :)

Where are you going on vacation?

P.S.- Thanks for the idea and request, Hannah!

Hey guys!
I've been completely obsessed with Iggy Azalea. I don't know what it is, but I love her. While visiting the fam in Houston over the 4th of July holiday, my sister and I decided to create an Iggy Azalea inspired video. It was so much fun doing this look and I think it looks great on Crystal. I really think it would look great on anyone especially for over the summer.

Iggy Azalea always wears classic winged liner and usually coats her lips with either a nude or bright pop of pink or red.

Vintage Black Gold Tutorial

Hey guys!

So here lately I've gone on a "let's clean out everything in my closet" binge and surprisingly enough, that included my makeup. I pretty much got rid of about 50% of my makeup (maybe a little less, but it was a lot). While going through my makeup, one thing lead to another and I started swatching things and eventually realized I was in the mood to do a full face with some rediscovered products I found in the black hole area of my makeup drawers. I wanted to use some of my older products. but also incorporate a few new things. I decided to create a look around the Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eyeshadow in Vintage Black Gold. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on these pigments and I wanted to share with you a little of what I've learned about the application process. I will explain more in detail in the tutorial below. I hope you all enjoy this look and get inspired!

Apply your favorite primer first. I used MAC's Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. Next, apply a transition shade a few shades darker than your natural skin tone. I used Naked from the original UD Naked palette.

Next, take a dark black shade and create a sideways V shade in the outer corner of your lid. This will add depth to the look when you later apply the glitter pigment.

Then, apply a sticky base on the lid from the inner corner to about half way through the black V you created. The glitter should overlap the black slightly. Only apply this sticky base where you want the glitter. If you go up too high (anywhere above your crease) it will look messy and be harder to blend later.

This glittery pigment is very unique and nothing like anything else I have in my collection. It is slightly squishy and bouncy to the touch kind of like a cream but isn't. It's strange. It comes with a liquid eye primer you are supposed to drop into a small pan and mix with the glitter pigment, then apply it with a synthetic brush across your lid. I honestly don't like the results I get by doing it that way so I came up with my own way to use it. I simply dip my ring finger into the glitter pigment and apply it directly onto my lid. No liquid primer and no mixing crazy, nonsense stuff together. By applying it with your finger, you will get the most color payoff and your lids will look AWESOME!

Now that you've applied the glitter, take a slightly darker transition shade and rock it back and forth into your socket/crease. This will help blend the edges of the glitter and darken the look a tad.

Let's not forget the lower lash line. I ran Sable all the way across the lower lash line, Espresso across 2/3 of the lower lash line and finally Black on the outer 1/3 of the lower lash line and blended.

For highlight, I kept it simple by going with a matte cream color in the inner corner of the eye and underneath the brow. Notice how I am only using matte eyeshadows (other than the obvious glitter we applied). This draws the attention to the glittery goodness on the mobile lid and doesn't overwhelm the look with too much shimmer and glitter.

Last, finish with a coat of mascara and some wispy lashes. I love these by Ardell.

And here's the final look.

I hope you enjoyed this look! Let me know what you think in the comments below :) Also, if you recreate this look, tag me in your picture on Instagram. I'd love to see what you come up with!
